The AIARE Level 1 avalanche course is an introduction to avalanche hazard management. It is the first in a series of three courses by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education ( AIARE ), including the Avalanche level 1, Companion Rescue , and Avalanche level 2 .

Our AIARE Level 1 Courses are designed for people looking to build a foundation for safe backcountry travel. This comprehensive 3-day course focuses on hazard evaluation, decision-making and companion rescue in avalanche terrain.

The AIARE Framework is a step by step backcountry risk management process made of daily and seasonal routines and agreements that foster consensus with your partners. The AIARE Framework also supports your continued learning with a process that helps you continue to build experience after your course. Inclusions: AIARE Level 1 Course Manual, AIARE Field Book, AIARE Level 1 certificate upon successful completion of course. Exclusions: Lodging, food, avalanche safety gear, backcountry touring gear. After successful completion of the AIARE Level 1 Rec Course students can further their education with AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course and AIARE Level 2 Rec Course .
